Are you looking to create meaningful connections between LGBTQIA2S+ communities? Introducing Queer Connections - the perfect platform for establishing a dialogue, engaging with like-minded individuals, and sharing our unique stories.

Minnesota Deaf Queers (MDQ) is partnering with Telling Queer History (TQH) to produce and present Queer Connections, a storytelling and community-building gathering that centers the lives and experiences of LGBTQIA+ Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing folks.

This gathering will include ASL interpretation and spoken English interpretation for hearing attendees. Please note, this gathering is in-person only.

At this gathering you’ll experience storytelling from four people with intersectional LGBTQIA+ identities. You’ll also have the opportunity to immerse yourself in communication and to build new understandings and relationships with our storytellers and other attendees!

You do not need to know ASL or have experience with Deaf culture in order to attend. This gathering creates a bridge between the LGBTQIA+ worlds of hearing and Deaf cultures, and as with all TQH gatherings, is a place for connection and care.

Upon arrival, everyone will get a name tag, and a fingerspelling card, and be taught how to spell their name.

There will be three stations - you can pick one to immerse yourself in that world of communication:

DeafBlind station: Learn tactile communications, have a vision glasses experience, and experience braille

Deaf Station: Learn ABC fingerspelling, learn other communication skills and Deaf etiquette

Hard of Hearing station: Learn about lip reading and other assistive technology

Following the immersion experience, four storytellers will take you on a journey into their lives as they share personal experiences. We’ll have a Q&A after the storytelling concludes.

Snacks and child care will be provided.

MN Deaf Queers & TQH have determined a way to move forward with as much caution and care as possible.

Masks (even clear-fronted masks) make communication with Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing folks very challenging.

You do not need to mask at this gathering.

Please take a Covid-19 test 24 hours before the gathering, and only attend if your result is negative.

Also, if you are experiencing any other symptoms of any kind of illness or infection, please stay away to keep others in the community infection-free!

You are welcome to wear a mask if that is what is most comfortable for you.

We look forward to seeing you on the 27th!
