Telling Queer History is at a precipice of growth
TQH became a nonprofit mid January 2020 and is expanding our capacity and sustainability. The current board has been volunteering for TQH for 1-4 years. We are a small and dedicated group looking to add some tenacious folks to our team. We are seeking board members enthusiastic about building TQH into a sustainable and supported organization.
What is it like to be on the TQH board?
We take naps and ice cream breaks during our annual retreats. We believe in feeding our bodies and spirits through this work. Positive, supportive, dedicated group of LGBTQ+ folks who see the importance of inter-community connection through storytelling and in person gatherings.
Who are we looking for?
People that like to work as a team, are self motivated to complete tasks, enjoy laughing during meetings. Tenacity! People with fundraising strategy and implementation experience to establish effective funding sources and relationships. Strong community relationships and a willingness to build public awareness and support for the organization. Financial expertise to support the organization develop systems and processes.
People that want to learn these things and bring the skills they have to grow TQH. Members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Board members are:
Telling Queer History Board Members serve as ambassadors for the organization, supporting the organization's work and value to the community. This is a working board which means board members are responsible for tasks such as contacting potential storytellers, grant writing, researching, and much more depending on interests and skills.
Board expectations:
Attend and actively participate in at least 80% of meetings and proceedings of the board (can be via video). The board meets monthly and meetings may last up to two hours. There are usually snacks and laughter while still being efficient.
Board does 1-10 hours monthly of additional service within the realm of your expertise to help the board and TQH grow. Hours may vary according to committee, experience and throughout the year.
Make an annual donation of at least $1 and help develop additional funds and resources.
Complete a two year term of office (renewable for two additional terms).
Attend at least 4 TQH gatherings per year and the fundraiser.
Experience:
Preference for people with any of the following experience: fundraising, grant writing, archiving and podcasting, board and non-profit experience, group facilitating, volunteer management, youth or elder engagement, communications (social media, press, web etc.) Identity in LGBTQ communities preferred.
